Odessa Lullaby
Scott Womack's sense of color reminds us of Hopper and Eggleston rendering of modern Americana.
One could expect darkness and menace from Scott’s invitation to the Voyage and the photographs of back roads by night. But we are surprised by how much peace lies in the series Odessa Lullaby. A narrative begins to emerge. The photographs are drawn to an emblematic peaceful emptiness that lull us to quiet our fears. In the darkest hours of the night Scott’s silent space “touches us where we are most vulnerable”, and inspires a familiar melancholy, the melancholy of a lullaby.
“Invitation to the Voyage” by Charles Baudelaire, Flowers of Evil.
